Samarkand and Bukhara are two of Uzbekistan’s most famous Silk Road cities, well connected by train and road.

1. By High-Speed Train (Recommended)

- Train Types: Afrosiyob (fastest and most comfortable) or Sharq (slower but scenic)
- Duration:
- Afrosiyob: About 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours
- Sharq: Around 3.5 to 4 hours
- Departure Stations:
- Samarkand Railway Station
- Bukhara-1 (Kagan) Station
- Arrival: Both stations are near city centers, short taxi ride away
- Tickets:
- Book online via Uzbekistan Railways or at local stations
- Afrosiyob tickets often sell out early, so book 2–3 days in advance
Why choose train: Fast, clean, modern, and scenic, making it the best option for most travelers.
2. By Shared Taxi
- Duration: Approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic
- Where to Find:
- Samarkand: Taxi stands near Registan or ask your hotel
- Bukhara: Taxi stands near the old town or central bus stations
- Price: Usually $10 to $15 per person, negotiable
- Comfort: Varies by vehicle and number of passengers
Why choose taxi: Flexible and good for spontaneous travel or making stops along the way.
3. By Bus (Not Recommended)
- Duration: Around 6 to 7 hours
- Price: Cheapest option but limited comfort
- Comfort: Basic and often crowded
- Availability: Infrequent and irregular schedules
Why avoid bus: Longer journey time and less comfort make it unsuitable for short visits.
