Got a long layover in Manila? Whether it’s your first time or you just have a day to spare before your next flight, Manila has enough charm, culture, and chaos to give you a memorable stopover. Here’s how to make the most of just 24 hours in the city.

Start your day early and head straight to Intramuros—the heart of historic Manila. Walk the cobbled streets, visit Fort Santiago, and step inside the beautiful San Agustin Church. The area is quiet in the morning, and the cool breeze makes it the best time to explore.

From there, walk or take a short ride to Rizal Park (Luneta). It’s peaceful and symbolic, with open gardens and monuments dedicated to José Rizal, the country’s national hero.

If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, take a quick stroll around Quiapo. It’s noisy, chaotic, and full of life—a real slice of everyday Manila. Grab a few street snacks and soak in the atmosphere.

Head over to Bonifacio Global City (BGC) or Makati for lunch or a relaxed city vibe. Both areas are modern, clean, and walkable. You’ll find everything from international cafes to local restaurants, plus malls and shops if you need to grab anything.

Take a break at Ayala Triangle Gardens (Makati) or just walk around Bonifacio High Street. These areas are perfect if you want a bit of downtime before your next flight.

Before you leave, try to catch a sunset at Manila Bay. It’s one of those simple things you’ll remember—sky turning orange, the ocean breeze, and people gathering along the baywalk to wind down the day.

If you still have time before heading back to the airport, you can stop by a nearby mall like Mall of Asia (very close to the airport) for a quick dinner or to pick up some souvenirs.

  • Travel time matters: Manila traffic can be heavy. Plan your return to the airport with plenty of buffer—especially during rush hour.
  • Use Grab: It’s the most reliable way to get around.
  • Stay close to the airport: If you’re booking a hotel for a few hours, consider options in Pasay or Makati.
  • Pack light: If possible, leave your luggage at the airport’s baggage deposit service.
  • Currency: Have some pesos on hand—especially for local spots and small shops.
