Many people think Macau is only about casinos and expensive taxis. But the truth is, you can easily explore Macau using public transport at a very affordable cost.
During my trip, I realized that Macau’s public buses are well-connected, clean, and easy to use. If you are planning a day trip or staying overnight, this guide will help you travel around smoothly.
Why Use Public Transport in Macau?
- Affordable compared to taxis
- Well connected to major attractions
- Clean and comfortable buses

Macau is small, so distances between attractions are not very far.

Main Public Transport Options in Macau
1. Public Buses (Best and Cheapest Option)
Public buses are the most common and budget-friendly way to travel in Macau.
Bus Fare
- Around 6 MOP per ride (flat fare in most routes)
- You can pay in cash or use Macau Pass
If paying cash, try to keep exact change because drivers usually do not return change.
2. Macau Pass Card
If you plan to use buses multiple times, you can buy a Macau Pass card. It makes travel easier and sometimes slightly cheaper.
You can purchase it at:
- Convenience stores
- Ferry terminals
- Some supermarkets

- Good for cultural exploration
Free Shuttle:
- Limited to hotels
- Good for casino hopping
- Less flexible
If you want to truly explore Macau beyond casinos, public buses are better.

Exploring Macau with public transport is easy, affordable, and convenient. You do not need taxis unless you are in a hurry.
If you are traveling on a budget or doing a day trip from Hong Kong, public buses will help you see most of Macau comfortably.
