In February 2025, during my Bali trip, I had the chance to visit Nusa Penida, and it became one of the most unforgettable parts of my journey. Compared to the busy streets of Kuta or Ubud, Nusa Penida felt raw, wild, and incredibly scenic. This island is a paradise for nature lovers, adventurers, and anyone looking for those dramatic landscapes you see all over Instagram.
I spent a couple of days exploring Nusa Penida and found it to be both challenging and rewarding. From cliffs to white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons, the beauty of this island blew me away.

Best Things to Do in Nusa Penida
If you’re visiting Nusa Penida, don’t miss these highlights that I personally visited or highly recommend:
1. Kelingking Beach
The most iconic spot on the island. From the top, it looks like a T-Rex head. The hike down is steep, but the view is worth every step. Easily one of the most photogenic places in Bali.
2. Angel’s Billabong & Broken Beach
These two spots are close to each other. Angel’s Billabong is a natural infinity pool, while Broken Beach is a giant natural arch carved out by the sea. Very dramatic and great for photography.
3. Diamond Beach & Atuh Beach
Located on the east coast, these beaches are postcard-perfect. Diamond Beach has crystal-clear water, and the stairs down the cliff are carved right into the rock. Truly magical!
4. Crystal Bay
A calmer beach, great for swimming and snorkeling. I enjoyed a peaceful sunset here after a full day of exploring.
5. Snorkeling and Manta Ray Dives
You can join a snorkeling or diving tour to spot manta rays at Manta Point or visit Gamat Bay and Toyapakeh Reef for vibrant coral and marine life.
6. Explore by Scooter or Private Car
If you’re confident on two wheels, rent a scooter to explore at your own pace. Roads can be bumpy, but the views are unmatched.

How to Reach Nusa Penida
Reaching Nusa Penida is simple and scenic:
- From Sanur (Bali): Take a fast boat (~30–45 minutes). Boats leave multiple times a day. I used one booked via 12Go or directly from the harbor.
- From Nusa Lembongan: A short boat ride if you’re island-hopping.
- Once on the island, rent a scooter or hire a local driver.
Tip: If you’re carrying luggage, pre-book a transfer with pickup included from your hotel in Bali.
Best Time to Visit Nusa Penida
The ideal time to visit is the dry season (April to October) for clearer skies and calm seas. I went in February 2025during the wet season and still enjoyed sunny days with occasional showers—it added to the island’s fresh and green look.
Tips for Visiting Nusa Penida
- The roads are rough in some areas—drive slowly and carefully
- Start early to avoid crowds at major attractions
- Carry cash; ATMs are limited and some places don’t accept cards
- Wear proper footwear for hiking (especially at Kelingking and Diamond Beach)
- Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks for long road trips
- Respect the environment—some places are sacred and should be treated mindfully
Why I Recommend Nusa Penida
Out of all the places I visited in Bali, Nusa Penida felt the most raw and real. The cliffs, beaches, and scenic roads gave me a feeling of adventure that I didn’t expect. It’s not always the most comfortable (bumpy roads and fewer restaurants), but it’s 100% worth it if you’re into natural beauty, photography, or peaceful getaways.
