During my dream trip to the Philippines in February 2025, I landed in Manila and stayed in the lively heart of Makati. If you’re planning to visit, here’s a quick guide to help you reach Makati City Center from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), hassle-free.
Airport: Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)
- Manila’s main international airport
- Consists of 4 terminals (T1 to T4)
- Makati is around 7–10 km away (depending on traffic and route)
Option 1: Grab (Most Recommended)

- What is it? Southeast Asia’s version of Uber
- Where to get it? Use the Grab app (Free Wi-Fi available at airport)
- Estimated fare: ₱300–₱500 (depending on traffic and time)
- Travel time: 30–60 minutes
- Why choose it? Safe, reliable, air-conditioned, fixed fare
Option 2: Regular Airport Taxi

- Where to find? Taxi lanes outside all terminals
- Estimated fare: ₱400–₱700 (metered + airport fee)
- Tip: Insist on using the meter
- Pros: Available 24/7
- Cons: May overcharge if not careful
Option 3: Airport Bus (UBE Express)

- Route: NAIA to Makati (One Ayala Terminal)
- Fare: ₱150–₱200
- Travel time: 45–90 minutes (depending on traffic)
- Good for: Budget travelers, solo backpackers
- Schedule: Runs every 30 minutes during the day
- Downside: Not ideal with too much luggage
Option 4: Private Car / Hotel Transfer
- Best for: Comfort seekers or late-night arrivals
- Cost: ₱1000–₱1500 (pre-booked online or via hotel)
- Includes: Meet & greet service at the airport
- Pro: Smooth ride straight to your hotel
- Con: Pricier than Grab or taxi
Option 5: Combine with Metro (Not recommended for first-time visitors)

- Why? No direct train from the airport
- Involves: Shuttle/jeep to nearest LRT/MRT + transfer
- Only for: Adventurous locals or experienced travelers
My Personal Tip:
I used Grab right after arriving. It was super convenient, especially after a long flight. Just make sure your mobile data or airport Wi-Fi is working so you can book the ride easily.
Bonus Tips:
- Traffic Alert: Manila traffic can be unpredictable—avoid rush hours if possible.
- Cash is king: Always keep small Peso bills for fare or tips.
- Wi-Fi & SIM: Grab a local SIM at the airport to stay connected.
