Manila might not be everyone’s favorite Southeast Asian city at first glance, but once you dive in, it has a vibe of its own—history, chaos, culture, and little pockets of peace. I spent 4 days here in February 2025 and this itinerary covers everything I think a first-timer should experience.
Day 1: Explore Manila’s Historic Heart

Start with Intramuros, the old walled city built during the Spanish colonial era. Walk its cobbled streets, take your time at Fort Santiago and the beautiful San Agustin Church, and just enjoy the slower pace.
Head over to Rizal Park (Luneta) afterward. It’s open, peaceful, and packed with history—it honors José Rizal, the country’s national hero. It’s also a favorite hangout spot for locals, especially on weekends.
As the day winds down, make your way to Manila Bay. The sunset here is famous—and worth it. Just find a quiet spot along Baywalk and watch the sky do its thing.

Day 2: Culture, Markets & the Local Energy

Start your morning at the National Museum Complex. There’s no entrance fee, and the architecture is just as beautiful as the exhibitions. You’ll find art, natural history, and deep dives into Filipino culture.
Next, dive into the local madness with a walk through Quiapo. It’s loud, colorful, and full of life. Visit Quiapo Church, explore the local stalls, and maybe pick up a few cheap finds. After that, head to Binondo, the oldest Chinatown in the world. It’s perfect for walking around, spotting historic buildings, and soaking in the culture.
End the day at Mall of Asia. You don’t even have to shop—just walk around, people-watch, or explore the open spaces. It’s huge and full of surprises.

Day 3: The Modern Side of Manila

Switch things up with a visit to Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati. It’s quiet and green—ideal for a morning stroll or just relaxing under the trees.
Then, explore Bonifacio Global City (BGC). It’s the most modern part of Manila—wide sidewalks, public art, clean streets, and lots of energy. Spend some time just walking around Bonifacio High Street, browsing, snapping photos, and enjoying how different it feels from the rest of the city.
If you’re up for it, check out The Mind Museum nearby. It’s fun, interactive, and surprisingly engaging for all ages. Great way to cool off and learn something new.

Day 4: Slow Travel, Souvenirs & Last Looks
Take it easy on your final day. If you’re staying in Makati or BGC, you’re in a good spot to just wander, relax, and soak it all in.
Use this day for last-minute shopping—whether that’s in Glorietta, Greenbelt, or Market! Market!, depending on your mood and location.
If you still have time, revisit your favorite spot from the past few days—Intramuros for a second look, a quiet moment at Rizal Park, or just another Manila Bay sunset. No pressure today—just enjoy it at your own pace.
Quick Tips Before You Go:
- Start your mornings early to avoid traffic and heat
- Stay hydrated—it gets hot, especially midday
- Light clothing and comfortable walking shoes are a must
- Download the Grab app for hassle-free transportation
- Makati and BGC are safe, clean, and great bases for exploring the city.
