Vang Vieng is a must-visit destination in Laos, known for its stunning limestone mountains, crystal-clear lagoons, and adventure-filled activities. Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or someone who enjoys nature and culture, this town has something for everyone. Having visited Vang Vieng with my wife in February 2025, I’ve put together a list of the top 5 things to do based on our experience.
1. Go Tubing on the Nam Song River

Tubing on the Nam Song River is Vang Vieng’s most famous activity. Rent a tube and float down the river, surrounded by breathtaking limestone cliffs and lush landscapes. It’s a relaxing yet fun way to enjoy the town’s natural beauty. You can also stop at riverside spots along the way to take in the views.
2. Hike to Nam Xay Viewpoint

If you’re looking for the best view in Vang Vieng, Nam Xay Viewpoint is the place to go. The short but steep hike takes about 30-40 minutes, and once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning 360-degree view of mountains, valleys, and rice fields. Don’t forget to take a picture with the famous motorbike at the top.
3. Swim in the Blue Lagoon

Vang Vieng is home to several Blue Lagoons, natural pools with crystal-clear blue water. The most popular is Blue Lagoon 1, where you can swim, jump from a tree swing, or relax by the water. If you prefer a quieter experience, visit Blue Lagoon 3, which is less crowded and surrounded by lush greenery.
4. Explore Tham Phu Kham Cave

Located near Blue Lagoon 1, Tham Phu Kham Cave is famous for its golden reclining Buddha inside. The cave has fascinating rock formations, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore deeper into its dark chambers. Bring a flashlight and good shoes, as the path can be slippery.
5. Visit the Vang Vieng Night Market

In the evening, head to the Vang Vieng Night Market to experience the town’s local culture. The market is a great place to buy souvenirs, handmade crafts, and traditional Lao products. You’ll also find street performances and a lively atmosphere, making it the perfect way to end your day.
