Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is a bustling metropolis filled with history, culture, and incredible street food. Having traveled to 18 countries, I always look for destinations that offer a mix of history, local experiences, and great food. In February 2025, I visited Ho Chi Minh City with my wife, and this itinerary is based on our firsthand experiences to help you make the most of your trip.

Day 1: Discovering Ho Chi Minh City’s Iconic Landmarks

  • Independence Palace (Reunification Palace) – Historic site where the Vietnam War officially ended.
  • Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon & Saigon Central Post Office – Beautiful French colonial architecture, great for photos.
  • War Remnants Museum – Must-visit for understanding the impact of the Vietnam War.
  • Ben Thanh Market – Ideal for shopping and trying local street food.
  • Nguyen Hue Walking Street – Lively area with performers, locals, and great city views.
  • Bitexco Financial Tower (Saigon Skydeck) – Panoramic city views from one of the tallest buildings.
  • Bui Vien Street – Best place for nightlife, bars, and live music.

Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels & Saigon River Dinner Cruise

  • Cu Chi Tunnels (1.5-hour drive from the city)
    • Explore underground tunnels used during the Vietnam War.
    • Crawl through tunnels and see war-era traps.
    • Learn about the daily life of Vietnamese soldiers.

Day 3: Cultural & Culinary Experiences

  • Thien Hau Temple – Beautiful Chinese temple dedicated to the goddess of the sea.
  • Binh Tay Market (Chinatown) – Explore local goods and try authentic street food.
  • Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts – Showcases incredible Vietnamese artwork.
  • Jade Emperor Pagoda – One of the most stunning and spiritually significant temples.
  • Street Food Tour – Try iconic dishes like pho, banh mi, and fresh spring rolls.
