
Traveling Cambodia in February 2025 was a great experience as the weather was dry and pleasant, making the journey more enjoyable. The bus departed Phnom Penh at 12:00 PM and arrived in Siem Reap at 7:00 PM, which was convenient for my schedule. The 7-hour journey was comfortable, and I appreciated the efficiency of Mey Hong Transport.
1. Booking the Bus Ticket
- Where to Book: Bus tickets can be booked online through platforms like 12Go Asia, or directly at bus company offices in Phnom Penh. Many guesthouses and hotels also assist with bookings.
- Bus Companies: Popular operators include Giant Ibis, Mey Hong and Larryta Express, Virak Buntham, and Mey Hong Transport. I chose Mey Hong Transport for my journey in February 2025 as it was recommended for its affordability and decent service.
- Cost: Tickets with Mey Hong Transport typically cost around 10 USD, making it a budget-friendly option.
- Departure Time: My bus departed Phnom Penh at 12:00 PM (noon) and arrived in Siem Reap at 7:00 PM, making the total travel time 7 hours.
2. Departure from Phnom Penh

- Bus Station: Mey Hong Transport buses usually depart from their office or a central bus station in Phnom Penh. The departure point was easy to locate and accessible by tuk-tuk or taxi.
- Check-In: I arrived at least 30 minutes before departure to check in and load my luggage. Mey Hong Transport buses have storage compartments for larger bags.
- Comfort: The bus was basic but functional, with reclining seats and air conditioning. While it wasn’t as luxurious as some higher-end operators, it was comfortable enough for the journey.
3. The Journey
- Route: The bus traveled along National Highway 6, which connects Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. The road was generally in good condition, though there were a few rough patches and construction zones.
- Scenery: The journey offered a fascinating glimpse of rural Cambodia, with rice paddies, small villages, and local markets along the way. It was a great way to see the countryside.
- Rest Stops: The bus made a 20-minute stop halfway through the journey at a roadside restaurant. I used the opportunity to stretch my legs, use the restroom, and grab a quick snack. The food options were simple but satisfying.
- Onboard Experience: The ride with Mey Hong Transport was smooth and uneventful. The bus was clean, and the staff were friendly. the journey was comfortable and met my expectations for the price.
4. Arrival in Siem Reap

- Bus Station: The bus arrived at the Siem Reap Bus Terminal at 7:00 PM, located a 1 km kilometers outside the city center. From there, I took a tuk-tuk to my hotel.
- Tuk-Tuk Drivers: Upon arrival, I was greeted by a crowd of tuk-tuk drivers offering rides. I negotiated a fare of $2 USD to reach my hotel in the city center.
- Distance to City Center: The bus terminal is about 10 minutes from the main tourist area.
5. Tips for a Smooth Journey
- Bring Snacks and Water: They will provide free Food and While there are rest stops, it’s always good to have your own supplies.
- Dress Comfortably: Wear light, breathable clothing as it can get warm, even with air conditioning.
- Keep Valuables Close: Store your passport, money, and electronics in a small bag that you can keep with you on the bus.
- Arrive Early: Traffic in Phnom Penh can be unpredictable, so leave plenty of time to reach the bus station.
- Choose a Reputable Company: Mey Hong Transport is a reliable budget option, but if you prefer more comfort, consider upgrading to a higher-end operator like Giant Ibis.
