In February 2020, just before the world changed with the COVID-19 pandemic, my wife and I embarked on a memorable journey to Malaysia. This trip offered us a perfect blend of bustling city life and serene island beauty. Here’s a detailed account of our 4-days adventure, covering Kuala Lumpur.
Day 1-4: Discovering Kuala Lumpur
Day 1: Arrival and Petronas Towers We arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s vibrant capital city, and checked into our hotel in the heart of the city. Our first stop was the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Standing tall at 452 meters, these twin skyscrapers are a must-see. We marveled at the cityscape from the observation deck and enjoyed a leisurely walk around KLCC Park.

Day 2: Batu Caves and Central Market The second day took us to the Batu Caves, a limestone hill with a series of caves and cave temples. The main attraction is the colossal golden statue of Lord Murugan and the 272 steps leading up to the Temple Cave. In the afternoon, we visited the Central Market, a cultural heritage site where we explored local crafts and enjoyed some traditional Malaysian cuisine.

Day 3: Merdeka Square and Islamic Arts Museum Our third day started with a visit to Merdeka Square, a historical landmark surrounded by colonial buildings. Nearby, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building’s stunning architecture caught our eye. Later, we explored the Islamic Arts Museum, which houses a vast collection of Islamic art from around the world.
Day 4: KL Tower and Bukit Bintang On our last day in Kuala Lumpur, we visited the KL Tower, another excellent spot for panoramic city views. In the evening, we headed to Bukit Bintang, the city’s shopping and entertainment district. We indulged in some retail therapy and tasted street food at Jalan Alor, a bustling food street.

Travel Tips

- Budget: Kuala Lumpur offers a range of accommodations to suit all budgets. Street food and local eateries are budget-friendly and delicious.
- Local Culture: Respect local customs, especially when visiting religious sites. Dress modestly and be mindful of local practices.
Our trip to Malaysia was a blend of excitement and relaxation, offering us both cultural insights and natural beauty. Whether you’re a city lover or a beach bum, Malaysia has something for everyone. Happy travels.
