Tashkent is the capital city of Uzbekistan. It’s known for its many museums and its mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture. The Amir Timur Museum houses manuscripts, weapons and other relics from the Timurid dynasty. Nearby, the huge State Museum of History of Uzbekistan has centuries-old Buddhist artifacts.

A Blend of Old and New

Tashkent, the vibrant capital of Uzbekistan, presents a striking contrast between modernity and tradition. My visit to Tashkent in December 2023 was a delightful introduction to the country’s diverse offerings.

  • Khast Imam Complex: This historic religious site houses the Uthman Quran, a significant artifact in Islamic history. The intricate architecture and serene atmosphere make it a must-visit.
  • Independence Square: This central square is surrounded by stunning buildings and beautifully landscaped gardens, reflecting Uzbekistan’s modern development and rich history.

Cultural and Culinary Delights

  • Chorsu Bazaar: My visit to this bustling market was a highlight. It’s a perfect spot to experience local culture, sample traditional foods, and pick up unique crafts.
  • Dining in Tashkent: From savoring traditional Uzbek dishes like plov to enjoying international cuisine, Tashkent offers a wide range of dining options that cater to all tastes.

TASKENT METRO

The Tashkent Metro (UZBEK Toshkent metropoliteni, Тошкент метрополитени) is the rapid transit system serving the city of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. It was the seventh metro to be built in the former USSR, opening in 1977, and the first metro in Central Asia. Each station is designed around a particular theme, often reflected in the station name.
